Sunday School Classes

There’s a Place for You

on Sunday Mornings at Providence

9:45-10:45 a.m.

Nursery for Babies and Toddlers—Room 101

Staff member Cynthia Liverpool and volunteers provide safe and loving care for our youngest.

Preschool-2 ½-4—Room 103

When our students first arrive, they learn to share and interact with each other in play time.  They put together puzzles, play in the kitchen area, play dress up, look at and hear books read, play with blocks, trains and pirate ships.  Then we gather around our table and listen to the Bible lesson, color, and do an activity usually involving stickers which are their favorite.  We also sing and pray.  We are sensitive to the attention span of our youngest members.  On some pretty days we play on the playground and talk about God’s creation.  Teachers:  Virginia Randall and Mary Ann Walton

Kindergarten-2nd Grade—Room 108

When everyone arrives, we talk with our students about their week while they play with play dough.  We often play a game together and sing.  During the Bible lesson, kids learn by hands-on activities, collaborating with each other, whole group activities, sharing, and individual help when needed.  A take-home booklet helps the parents reinforce what the children are learning.  Teachers:  Carol Urso and Jane Gilliam

3rd-5th Grade—Room 305

Our curriculum provides activity sheets for class (which the children can take home to save or continue to work on if time runs short), a monthly focus scripture verse, opportunities to read and learn about the Bible and a weekly DVD segment.  We just finished up a month on being peacekeepers, what it means to be a peacekeeper and how to act out God’s wish for us to be peacekeepers at home, in school, around the neighborhood, etc. September’s curriculum is God’s creation and we will be learning from Genesis.  Teachers:  Amy and Randy Mott

Middle School—Room 308

Come participate in a relevant-to-you Bible study while building relationships with other youth.  Each Sunday we connect with the Bible and each other as we learn more about faith and who God made us to be.  We have great fun and fellowship.  Teachers:  Lisa Fleenor and Jim McConnell

High School—Room 301

Our class helps guide students on their faith journey by encouraging them to explore God’s Word in a fun, positive environment.  Students will receive in-depth teaching on core biblical principles and stories, with emphasis on real-world application.  Expect lively discussions and bring all of your tough questions.  And did we mention that there is food?  Teachers:  Christopher and Isca Wilms

9:45-10:45 a.m.

 Friendship—Room 206

We became the Friendship Class in 1947 for young singles and couples.  For many years we were the largest class at Providence and we have grown old together.  We study the Adult Bible Study of the Uniform Series.  Our class now has ten or less on Sunday mornings but we always have an active discussion on the lesson presented. Our teachers are Betty Gregory, Allen Branson, and Uldine Curtis.  We welcome persons of any age who love the Bible and the study of God’s word. We may be old but we are young at heart and would love to share “gems” of wisdom and hear opinions from others young and old.  Please visit or join us on any Sunday morning as we explore God’s Word.  We would be so happy to have you!  Contact:  Betty Gregory (276-6582)

Christian Builders—Room 205

The Christian Builders Class meets in room 205.  We have five rotating teachers.  We use the Adult Bible Study of the Uniform Series and usually have lively discussions about the scriptures.  We welcome anyone who would like to be part of a Bible-based study.  Starting in September our studies will include Jeremiah, Habakkuk, Job, and Ezekiel.  The theme will be “Sustaining Hope.”  Contact:  Flora Scott (320-3234)

Growing In Faith Together—Room 309

The Growing In Faith Together (GIFT) class is a mission based class supporting programs like Upward Soccer, Backpack Program, Salvation Army Stockings, Caritas, youth mission trips.  We also adopt a Christmas family and help in the community as needed.  Our funds are from two chicken BBQ’s every year and Wednesday night dinners.  We have several social events every year such as bowling, cookouts, and a Christmas party. GIFT is a group that was originally formed as young adults who have matured, survived and share the same fundamental faith in God and Christ.  We try to do a mix of studies, Bible-based and studies based on social concerns and life stages.  We feel free to express doubts and differing points of view and are very accepting and welcoming to newcomers. The age range of our group is from 30’s to 70’s. Contact:  Robin Sculthorpe (745-4219)

New Beginnings —Room 302

We are a class for young adults, but we also welcome anyone, high school grads and up, who want to study with us.  We are starting an 8 week Bible study centered around the book-The Dream Giver.  Author Bruce Wilkinson, also author of The Prayer of Jabez, will show you, in a modern day parable, how to rise above the ordinary, conquer your fears, and overcome the obstacles that keep you from living your Big Dream.  This is a study for all adults–no matter your age–who desire to pursue the plan God has for your life.  Come join us!  Contact:  Cathy and Mike Patterson (307-4707)

Pairs and Spares—Room 303

Pairs and Spares is an adult class that is discussion oriented.  We use various books to discuss how our faith and beliefs are reflected in our everyday lives.  Currently we are using MOMENTUM – Five keys from the Lord’s Prayer to Getting Unstuck and Moving Forwardby John Siebeling as our text to start our discussions on our lives and faith.  Contact:  Carolyn Bowman (743-8085)

Living Word—Room 302

The Living Word Sunday School class tries to interpret our daily lives based on the Bible, the living word of God. We are guided by 2 Timothy 3:16-17.  We welcome new members and guests as we study each week.  Contact:  Betty-Ann Roberson (674-5286)

Parenting Fellowship—Room 304

We are parents whose children are age 0 through 18.  We enjoy sharing and learning from our experiences and various parenting resources.  Sometimes we study other topics as well.  If you are a parent, join us for great fellowship and support.  Contact:  Kelly King Horne (909-1041)
