Brunswick Stew – A Community Event

On October 8, a long-standing tradition will continue at Providence. Beginning early in the morning, ingredients for the stew will be added to large kettles in the picnic shelter. All day long, volunteers will stir the stew. Everyone is invited to come to the Social Hall at church, 5:00-7:00 p.m., to enjoy the Brunswick stew for supper. The supper is free and open to the community.
K-5 Mid-Week Program

All children in grades K-5 are invited to have fun with this exciting new mid-week program. If you came to our VBS program you’ll love Bamboogie all the more. Learn about God through games, music, crafts, laughter, and of course scripture. This program will begin September 28th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in room 305. Everyone is invited. In fact, we hope you will bring a friend!
Old Testament Stories from the Backside

“Drop In Series” is a popular program for those with really busy schedules. No reading, no books, just drop in for one hour to listen and learn. The class does not depend on a continuing commitment so come as you are as you please. This series begins September 28 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and ends November 9. Allen Branson will facilitates this series from the book Old Testament Stories from the Backside by J. Ellsworth Kalas. The study will explore the Old Testament from a different prospective with the following scriptures:
- September 28: Genesis 3:1-3, “The Second Sin’
- October 5, Exodus 2:1-10, “Because My Mother Told Me’
- October 12, Exodus 2:11-22, “Moses’ Midlife Crisis”
- October 19, “ 1 Samuel 25: 2-42 “Beauty And The Beast”
- October 26, 1 Samuel 9:1-13, “A Refuge At The King’s Table”
- November 2, Job 2:1-10 “In Defense of Job’s Wife”
- November 9, Jonah 3:1-6, 10 and Matthew 12:38-42, “Jonah’s Christmas Story”
- November 16 Ruth 1:1-5, 4:13-17 “God’s Is Better Than His Plans”
You may be surprised and maybe you will see the Old Testament with a new understanding and there is no doubt that you will be engaged by what is presented.
Men’s Small Group

Men’s Small Group will begin gathering in early-October on Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m. This group will focus on the upcoming movie “Courageous”. It’s primarily meant to get men talking about the key issues of living a courageous life: family, priorities, legacy and faith. Advent Conspiracy. Tired of the consumerism that has come to define Christmas? Advent Conspiracy encourages us to restore the heart of the holiday. Unwrapping four simple but powerful concepts, this stirring book invites you to celebrate Jesus’ birth more meaningfully by giving relationally to family, friends, and the less fortunate. Through this four-session DVD curriculum, Advent Conspiracy shows how you can substitute compassion for consumption by practicing four simple but powerful concepts. Christmas can still change the world when people, like Jesus, give what matters most—their presence. This study begins September 28 ends October 26 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. It will be facilitated by Cathy Patterson. Book cost is $11.00.
Change The World

Change The World by Mike Slaughter. Each week, participants will read and discuss a gospel story, watch a video profiling an inspiring, world-changing mission effort, and envision together how they can change the world locally and globally. You won’t just read about Jesus feeding the 5000 or healing the lepers, but will be inspired by contemporary ministries and challenged to take a leading role in the congregation’s missional efforts. This class, led by Rob Heare, will begin September 28 through November 16 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Books cost $5.00.
